The DRSA Scholarship Deadline:
INTRODUCTION
The Durham Region Soccer Association has been involved with the development of youth soccer in the region for many years. The DRSA in conjunction with member clubs has assisted in the development of both professional and international players who have represented Canada at the international levels. The Association is also concerned with the educational development of our young men and women. The DRSA is initiating a scholarship program to assist eligible players/referees who are pursuing a post secondary education.
Program:
1. There will be four (4) scholarships offered, two male and two female, not to exceed a total expenditure of Four-thousand dollars ($4000).
2. Each scholarship not to exceed One-thousand dollar ($1000).
3. Two (2) scholarships will be awarded to varsity players; one (1) female and one (1) male.
4. Two (2) scholarships will be open to eligible DRSA players, game officials and volunteers.
General Eligibility:
1. A resident of Durham Region and a registered member of DRSA.
2. Candidates must be in grade twelve (12) or equivalent level.
3. Candidates must be recognized as having been a valuable asset to soccer within the DRSA for five(5) consecutive years.
4. Applicants for scholarships must submit a completed application and resume, accompanied with a letter of recommendation to the DRSA by July 31.
5. Candidates must maintain a GPA of 2.5 for the first and second semesters.
Varsity Scholarships: (Scholarships exclusive to Durham College/UOIT)
1. Must be selected to play on the Durham College/ UOIT Varsity team.
2. Candidates need not have played at a competitive level.
Academic/Member Scholarship (Open to any post secondary institution)
1. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to soccer both on and off the playing field, i.e.; assisting in other Club/Region functions, such as volunteer work, playing, officiating within the Club/Region.
Scholarship Payment
Scholarship award will be paid in two installments, first being the start of the school term and the second installment approximately in January for the beginning of the second term. Candidates must provide proof of continuing studies prior to receiving second installment.
